Structural Engineering

Purpose-Built Structures. Precision from Concept to Completion.

At Diamond Engineering & Consulting Group, our Structural Engineering team delivers safe, efficient, and buildable solutions for new construction, adaptive reuse, and complex renovations. We combine rigorous analysis with field-tested constructability to help owners, architects, and contractors achieve performance, schedule, and budget goals across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

What We Do

  • Full Building Design
Steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, heavy timber, cold-formed steel, and hybrid systems.
  • Renovations & Adaptive Reuse
Structural assessments, load-path redesign, column transfers, vertical and horizontal expansions, and historic restorations.
  • Foundation & Site Structures
Spread and mat foundations, deep foundations (piles, caissons, micropiles), grade beams, retaining walls, waterfront and flood-resilient designs.
  • Construction Engineering / Temporary Works
Shoring, needling, bracing, formwork, crane and lift plans, rigging reviews, stability sequences, and demolition engineering.
  • Specialty & Connection Design
Steel and timber connections, precast systems, curtain wall supports, equipment pads and vibration isolation, nonbuilding structures.
  • Seismic, Wind & Blast
ASCE 7 lateral systems, performance-based analysis, drift and acceleration control, progressive collapse review, blast-resistant detailing.
  • Forensic Engineering & Condition Assessments
Distress investigations, failure analysis, repair and strengthening programs, due diligence for acquisitions and capital planning.
  • Peer Review & Value Engineering
Independent checks for safety, economy, and constructability; alternate schemes and materials optimization.
  • Special Inspections (IBC Ch. 17) & Owner Representation
Welding, high-strength bolting, concrete, masonry, soils, deep foundations; documentation and compliance oversight.

Markets We Serve

  • Commercial & Mixed-Use (core/shell, fit-outs, flagship retail)
  • Industrial & Logistics (high-bay, mezzanines, racking, conveyor support)
  • Healthcare & Life Sciences (OSHPD-informed practices, vibration criteria)
  • Education & Civic (K-12, higher ed, cultural, public safety)
  • Sports & Assembly (grandstands, long-span roofs, specialty rigging)
  • Transportation & Utilities (maintenance facilities, substations, railroad infrastructure, airport terminals and support structures, and transmission/distribution structures)
  • Government Agencies (federal, state, and local projects including courthouses, administrative complexes, public safety facilities, and infrastructure modernization)

Our Process

  1. Discovery & Criteria Setting – Establish performance targets, risk category, loads, and constraints with all stakeholders.
  2. Concept & Schematic Design – Evaluate alternatives for cost, speed, embodied carbon, and construction logistics.
  3. Analysis & Detailed Design – Advanced modeling (linear/nonlinear, staged construction, vibration, thermal, blast).
  4. Documentation – Coordinated drawings, specifications, and calculation packages suitable for bidding and permitting.
  5. Procurement Support – RFIs, addenda, submittal reviews, shop drawings, and connection engineering oversight.
  6. Construction Administration – Site visits, observation reports, NCR resolution, design clarifications, and as-builts.
  7. Closeout & Lifecycle – Turnover packages, O&M guidance, monitoring, and future expansion planning.

Codes, Standards & Local Experience

We design to the latest adopted codes and local amendments, including:
IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360/341, ACI 318/301, TMS 402/602, NDS, AASHTO (where applicable), OSHA considerations for construction staging, and local building codes such as NYC Building Code, NJ UCC, PA UCC, and CT State Building Code. Our team is fluent in authority requirements and permit expediting to keep schedules on track.

Digital Delivery & Tools

  • BIM Integration – Revit-based coordination with architectural, MEP, and civil teams; clash detection and model exchanges.
  • Analysis Platforms – Finite element modeling, lateral system optimization, staged construction, and dynamic/vibration studies.
  • Quantities & Cost Support – Early takeoffs, alternates, and VE options to meet budget and procurement goals.

Quality & Risk Management

  • ISO 9001–aligned QMS with independent design checks and constructability reviews.
  • Documented QA/QC gates at schematic, 50%, 90%, and IFC milestones.
  • Special Inspections & Testing plans consistent with IBC Chapter 17 and owner requirements.

Safety by Design

We embed design-for-safety principles: stable erection sequences, temporary stability checks, crane/lift planning support, fall-protection anchors, and clear construction notes to reduce site-phase risk.

Sustainability & Resilience

  • Material Efficiency & Low-Carbon Options – Optimization for tonnage and cement content; evaluation of recycled content and EPDs.
  • Resilient Design – Flood and wind hardening, redundancy, and business-continuity objectives.
  • Lifecycle Thinking – Design for adaptability, deconstruction, and future vertical expansion where feasible.

Typical Deliverables

  • Basis of Design / Design Criteria
  • Structural calculations and analysis models
  • Fully coordinated drawings and specifications
  • Connection design requirements and schedules
  • Procurement and submittal review logs
  • Site observation reports and punch lists
  • As-built markups and closeout packages

Why Diamond

  • Buildable Designs that respect schedule, labor, and means & methods.
  • Responsiveness from senior engineers who stay engaged from kickoff to closeout.
  • Authority Familiarity and practical permit strategies across NY, NJ, CT, and PA.
